About
Celestial closes Compass Box's Extinct Blends Quartet—a series that resurrects lost blended Scotch whiskies from the previous century. This expression draws inspiration from an original blend from the 1960s, recognizable by its extravagant flavour profile and equine theme: the label depicts Pegasus, the winged horse of Greek mythology, set against a dramatic cloudscape. The blend is built around a core of Islay whisky, with key parcels from Ardbeg and Caol Ila, complemented by malts from Speyside. It is the peatiest and most complex of the Quartet—a heavyweight, mature blend offering substantial depth and layered character. On the nose, heavy peat smoke dominates, followed by coastal notes (seaweed, juniper, lime leaf). The palate reveals a full, almost chewy texture: smoky richness, gingery warmth, vanilla, and grilled apple. The finish is dry and oaky, with lingering smoke that resonates for minutes.
