Talisker's 175th Anniversary is a celebration of the distillery's distinguished heritage on the Isle of Skye, commemorating its founding in 1830. This limited edition 2005 bottling combines whiskies of various ages and cask types, creating a more robust and smoky expression than the standard 10 Year Old. It captures the essence of Talisker's volcanic character while honoring a quarter-millennium of whisky-making tradition. The nose reveals layered complexity: prominent peat smoke, sherry influences, and sweet notes of honey and vanilla emerging with time, followed by subtle heather. The palate opens with sweetness—coconut and honeyed fruit—before medicinal peat smoke takes hold, gradually revealing peppery spice and bright citrus notes. The finish is long and enduring, with persistent torfumed smoke, peppery heat, and a distinctive maritime saltiness that defines Talisker's signature character.
