Great King Street Glasgow Blend
About
Compass Box was founded in 2000 by John Glaser, an American who dedicated himself entirely to Scotch whisky. Great King Street Glasgow Blend debuted in 2014, drawing inspiration from Aeneas MacDonald's classic book 'Whisky' — a tribute to Glasgow's whisky heritage. The name references the Glasgow street where Compass Box is headquartered. This blend marries roughly 67% malt whisky from Islay and Speyside with approximately 50% Lowland grain, matured in first-fill American oak. The composition is finished across first-fill sherry casks, refill bourbon barrels, and a small portion of new French oak. This layering gives the whisky its distinctive character: smoky malt tempered by fruity, wine-like depth. On the nose, a full, rounded profile emerges—peaty smokiness underpinned by dried fruit and sherry-aged character. The palate is mellow and approachable, with vanilla, peach, and lemon weaving through. The finish is modest but pleasant, with a touch of sweetness and a whisper of astringency.
