Deanston launches an experimental 17-year-old Highland single malt with an unconventional finish in Spanish orange wine casks. This personal project by master blender Julieann Fernandez draws inspiration from her Andalusian heritage, marking a bold venture into non-traditional cask finishes. The worldwide release is limited to just 7,000 bottles.

Maturation and Production

The whisky matured for 15 years in ex-bourbon casks, establishing Deanston's signature foundation of honeyed sweetness and subtle waxy texture. It then underwent 2 years of finishing in Vino de Naranja casks—Spanish orange wine casks infused with bitter orange peel. This unconventional pairing creates complex citrus character perfectly balanced with Deanston's natural sweetness, with each cask carefully monitored before bottling.

Tasting Profile

The nose reveals light citrus, dried fruit, honey, and almond notes. On the palate, expect bitter orange, roasted nuts, malty biscuit, and soft sweetness. The finish is long and slightly drying with citrus oils and light spice.
