The Yoichi Distillery, founded by Masataka Taketsuru in 1934, is located in Yoichi, Hokkaido, Japan. It is one of the two distilleries operated by Nikka Whisky, which Taketsuru established after studying the art of whisky-making in Scotland. Situated approximately 50 kilometers west of Sapporo, the distillery is surrounded by a picturesque landscape, offering a unique environment for whisky production. Over the years, Yoichi has maintained its traditional methods while also expanding under Nikka's ownership. With a production capacity enhanced by significant investments, the Yoichi Distillery produces a variety of single malt whiskies that showcase a distinctive flavor profile. The distillery employs traditional pot stills and utilizes a combination of local ingredients, including pure water sourced from the nearby mountains. The whiskies often exhibit notes of peat smoke, fruit, and sweetness, balanced with hints of oak and nuts. Notable expressions include the Nikka Yoichi and the Nikka Yoichi 'Sherry & Sweet', both of which reflect the character and craftsmanship of this renowned distillery. Visitors can explore the distillery and learn about its rich history by arranging a visit to the address provided.
