Town's Mill

Town's Mill was located in the Lowland region of Scotland and was founded in 1825 by James Philips. Despite its brief existence, lasting only until 1830, the distillery contributed to the early development of whisky production in the area. The distillery was situated near a mill, leveraging the local water source for its operations. Its closure was attributed to the difficulties of the whisky market during that period, which ultimately led to its downfall. The distillery's production capacity and methods remain somewhat obscure due to its short operational lifespan. However, it is believed that Town's Mill utilized traditional pot stills, typical of the era, to create its whisky. While there are no surviving expressions from Town's Mill, the character of Lowland whiskies from that time is generally noted for being light and floral, often exhibiting grassy and citrus notes. Unfortunately, the lack of records means that specific tasting notes are largely speculative. Today, the site serves as a reminder of the rich history of whisky making in Scotland, and while Town's Mill no longer exists, its legacy contributes to the narrative of the Lowland whisky region.
