Hartfield
Highland, Scotland · Opgericht in 1798 - 1799
Hartfield Distillery, located in the Highland region of Scotland, was founded in 1798 by Robert Murray. Despite its historical significance, the distillery had a brief existence, closing its doors just a year later in 1799. The reasons for its closure remain unclear, but it is a notable example of early Scottish whisky production attempts during a time when the industry was still in its formative stages. Although Hartfield Distillery had a short operational lifespan, it is believed that its production methods included traditional pot stills, which were common in the late 18th century. The whisky produced during its brief tenure likely exhibited a character of light, floral notes typical of Highland whiskies, potentially with a hint of peat. Unfortunately, due to its quick closure, no notable expressions have emerged from Hartfield, making it a part of whisky history that is often overlooked. Visitors to the region can still appreciate the rich heritage of Highland whisky, even without the distillery itself in operation.
