Caledonian

Caledonian Distillery, located in the Lowland region of Scotland, was established in 1855 by Grahm Menzies & Co. Originally named Edinburgh Distillery, it played a significant role in the whisky production landscape until its closure in 1988. The distillery was owned by Diageo at the time of its shutdown, marking the end of an era for this historic site, which has since been transformed into residential accommodations. The distillery was known for its production of single grain whisky, with a notable capacity during its operational years. Caledonian's equipment included traditional pot stills, which contributed to the character of its whiskies. The flavour profile is distinguished by sweet notes of vanilla and chocolate, complemented by a fruity and oaky nose with hints of honey and melon. The finish typically features sweet, herbal notes along with coffee and caramel, reflecting the distillery's unique approach to grain whisky production. Notable expressions include the Caledonian 1987 Signatory Cask Strength and The Cally 40 Years - 1974, showcasing the distillery's legacy despite its closure.
