Arran

Nestled in the picturesque village of Lochranza on the Isle of Arran in the Firth of Clyde, Arran Distillery carries on a whisky-making tradition that stretches back centuries. Although legal distilling on the island ceased for over 150 years, the spirit of Arran was revived on the 29th of June 1995, when the distillery was founded by Harold Currie, a former director at Chivas. The Isle of Arran itself has a long and storied past in whisky production — and whisky smuggling — dating back to the 1700s, when many farmhouses operated small illicit stills. Arran Distillery is committed to using only the purest ingredients in its production process. The distillery began with traditional dunnage warehouses featuring rammed earth floors and three layers of casks, to which racked warehouses have since been added. Over the years, Arran has expanded its range to include both unpeated and peated expressions. The peated Machrie Moor was one of the distillery's notable releases, marking its first foray into peated whisky production. Arran has grown into one of Scotland's most celebrated independent island distilleries, drawing visitors to the stunning Lochranza valley. The success of the original distillery even led to the opening of a second site, Lagg Distillery, on the southern tip of the island. Whether you are a seasoned whisky enthusiast or a curious newcomer, a visit to Arran offers an unforgettable experience.
