Wolfburn
/WOLF-burn/
Islay, Scotland · Founded in 2013
Wolfburn Distillery is located in Thurso, Caithness, at the very northern tip of mainland Scotland, just a stone's throw from the Orkney Islands. The original Wolfburn Distillery was founded in 1821 by William Smith and was, in its day, one of the largest distilleries in the region, producing a robust whisky that was well-regarded across Scotland. After a long silence, the idea to revive Wolfburn came in 2011, and in 2013 the first new spirit was produced — with the first cask filled on Burns Night, 25th January of that year. Wolfburn's single malt whiskies are made the traditional way: without haste, by hand, and with a strong emphasis on quality. The distillery offers four core expressions, each reflecting the clean, northern character of its Caithness surroundings. The remote location and unhurried approach to production give Wolfburn whisky a distinctive identity rooted in craftsmanship and authenticity. In 2023, Wolfburn appointed California-based ImpEx Beverages as its exclusive US importer, marking a significant step in the brand's international growth. The distillery has also demonstrated a commitment to the local community, entering a five-year partnership with Scotland's Air Ambulance Charity and pledging £15 from every sale of a dedicated expression to support the cause.
