White Peak Distillery was founded in 2016 by husband and wife team Max and Claire Vaughan, located in an old wire factory in the Peak District, near Ambergate, north of Derby. The distillery made history by becoming Derbyshire's first whisky distillery when it released its first whiskies in 2022. Set beside a river and surrounded by ancient countryside, the site offers a compelling blend of industrial heritage and natural beauty that shapes the distillery's identity. Before turning its full attention to whisky, White Peak initially built its reputation through a range of gins and rum. The flagship whisky range, Wire Works, takes its name from the historic factory that houses the distillery. Expressions include the Wire Works Bourbon Barrel and Wire Works Virgin Oak, each reflecting the distillery's commitment to crafting distinctive English single malt whisky. The distillery has also become well regarded for its visitor experiences. White Peak's Wire Works Bourbon Barrel was named Whisky of the Year 2026 by The Whisky Exchange, a remarkable achievement for a young English distillery. Co-founder Claire Vaughan has been recognised as a leading figure among women in whisky, further cementing White Peak's reputation as one of the most exciting new voices in English whisky today.
