Warenghem

Distillerie Warenghem, located in Lannion in the heart of Brittany, France, is one of the oldest and most pioneering distilleries in French whisky history. Founded in 1900 by Léon Warenghem, the distillery originally gained recognition for its Elixir d'Armorique, a distillate of 35 plants that won awards at the time. Whisky production at the site began in 1983, marking the start of a new chapter for the distillery and for French whisky as a whole. Warenghem launched its first blend, WB (Whisky Breton), in 1987, before achieving a landmark moment in 1998 with the release of Armorik — the first French single malt whisky. The Armorik range remains the distillery's flagship portfolio, showcasing a distinctly Breton character shaped by the Atlantic climate and local craftsmanship. In recent years, Warenghem has doubled its production capacity, enabling the creation of age-statement releases and limited editions that continue to expand its reputation. As a true pioneer of French whisky, Warenghem has played a foundational role in inspiring the growth of a category that now boasts over 40 distilleries across France. Widely distributed and recognised internationally, the distillery is considered an essential reference point for anyone exploring whisky beyond Scotland and Ireland.
