Wallace Paw

Wallace Paw is one of Scotland's more obscure historical distilleries, with roots stretching back to 1795. Located in Bo'ness, West Lothian, this quaintly named operation was among the many small distilleries that briefly flourished in late 18th-century Scotland. The distillery was originally owned by Fargie and Steel & Co. in 1795, before passing to Millar Baird & Co. from 1798 to 1799, at which point the business was sequestrated, bringing its short-lived history to a close. Given its extremely brief period of operation β€” spanning only a few years at the turn of the 19th century β€” very little is known about the style or character of the whisky produced at Wallace Paw. It represents a fascinating footnote in the broader history of Scotch whisky, a period when dozens of farm and small-town distilleries dotted the Scottish lowlands, many of them operating on the margins of legality or financial viability. Wallace Paw stands as a curious relic of that turbulent era in Scottish distilling history.
