Virginia Gentleman is a bourbon whiskey with deep roots in Virginia, produced at A. Smith Bowman Distillery. The distillery's history dates back to 1927, when A. Smith Bowman established operations using local grain from the farm's excess dairy operations. Virginia Gentleman itself was first produced in 1935, crafted with the help of Bowman's two sons, making it one of the pioneering bourbons of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The brand became the hallmark expression of A. Smith Bowman Distillery, initially produced in small batches to ensure meticulous control over the quality of each bottle. Virginia Gentleman is a straight bourbon whiskey, aged and bottled in the Virginia tradition. In 2003, A. Smith Bowman Distillery was acquired by the Sazerac Company, one of America's leading spirits producers, which has since expanded the distillery's operations and portfolio. Alongside Virginia Gentleman, the distillery now also produces expressions such as Bowman Brothers Small Batch Bourbon, further cementing its reputation as a cornerstone of Virginia whiskey heritage.
