Towiemore
Speyside, Scotland · Founded in 1896
Towiemore was a Speyside single malt distillery founded in 1896 by Peter Dawson, who subsequently sold it shortly after to the McPherson Grant family. Located in the Speyside region of Scotland, the distillery became one of the many casualties of the challenging economic climate facing the Scotch whisky industry in the early twentieth century, closing its doors in 1931. Today, Towiemore remains a lost distillery, preserved in memory rather than in production. The Towiemore name has been revived by The Lost Distillery Company, a specialist bottler dedicated to recreating whiskies from closed Scottish distilleries. Their Towiemore expressions are crafted using historical research and blending expertise to approximate the character of the original distillery's spirit. The range is available in three tiers: Classic, Archivist, and Vintage, each offering a different depth of exploration for enthusiasts curious about Scotland's forgotten distilling heritage. Alongside fellow lost distilleries such as Auchnagie, Gerston, Jericho, Dalaruan, and Lossit, Towiemore represents a fascinating chapter in Speyside's rich whisky history. The Lost Distillery Company's efforts have brought renewed attention to these vanished producers, offering modern whisky lovers a rare glimpse into the past.
