Tottori is a Japanese blended whisky produced by Matsui Shuzo, a distillery located in the coastal prefecture of Tottori in Japan's San-In region. The distillery is known for crafting mellow and smooth whiskies that reflect the character of their remote, nature-rich surroundings. Tottori is part of a broader portfolio that includes The Matsui, The Kurayoshi, and The San-In expressions, and represents one of the first Japanese small-scale craft β or 'Ji' β whiskies to gain international recognition. The Tottori Blended Whisky is the flagship expression of the range, bottled at 43% ABV. It is a blend of three Japanese whiskies from across Japan, aged in toasted American oak barrels and finished with spring water sourced from the wilderness of the Tottori prefecture. The result is a well-balanced, approachable whisky with aromas of cream, lemon sponge cake, and pine needles, complemented by flavours of vanilla, raisins, and a faint touch of smoke. A 23-year-old expression is also part of the range, showcasing the distillery's capacity for longer maturation. Matsui Shuzo's Tottori range has helped put Japan's lesser-known craft distilleries on the global map, earning recognition among enthusiasts and critics alike as a refined and characterful example of Japanese blended whisky.
