Tormore Distillery is a landmark of post-war Scotch whisky history, established in 1959–1960 in Moray, on the banks of the Achvochkie Burn in Speyside. Built by the American company Schenley International, it holds the distinction of being the first new distillery constructed in Scotland during the post-World War II Scotch boom. Designed by Sir Albert Richardson, the striking modernist building won a Gold Medal for Architecture, making Tormore as notable for its aesthetics as for its spirit. Originally created to supply malt whisky for Long John blends, Tormore's single malt expressions have historically been limited in number and were not always a commercial priority during its years under Chivas and later Pernod Ricard. The distillery produces a characteristically clean, light, and approachable Speyside style, with gentle fruit and nutty notes. In June 2022, Pernod Ricard announced the sale of Tormore to Elixir Distillers, the company co-founded by brothers Sukhinder and Rajbir Singh. Under Elixir Distillers' stewardship, Tormore is entering an exciting new chapter. In 2025, the distillery released its first whiskies under the new ownership — the Blueprint series — signalling a fresh and ambitious direction. With passionate independent whisky specialists now at the helm, enthusiasts can expect Tormore to finally step into the spotlight it has long deserved.
