Strathmill

Strathmill is a Speyside distillery located in the town of Keith, in the Moray region of Scotland. The site itself has a long industrial history, originally operating as a grain mill as far back as 1823. The distillery as it is known today began operations in 1891, initially under the name Glenisla-Glenlivet — following the common trend among Speyside distilleries of the era to append 'Glenlivet' to their name. The distillery was notably owned for a period by W&A Gilbey, a gin company, before eventually passing into the hands of Diageo, its current owner. Strathmill is one of three distilleries in Keith, alongside Strathisla and Glen Keith, and is widely considered one of Scotland's more obscure single malt producers. The vast majority of its output is destined for blended Scotch whisky, most notably J&B. Official single malt bottlings are rare, with the Flora & Fauna 12-year-old being the most recognized expression. Strathmill's style is generally described as light and delicate, well-suited to its primary role as a blending component. Despite releasing its first single malt as early as 1909, Strathmill has never sought the spotlight as an independent bottling powerhouse. For whisky enthusiasts, expressions from independent bottlers such as Signatory Vintage and Morisco Spirits offer a rare opportunity to explore what this quietly productive Speyside distillery has to offer.
