St. Kilian

St. Kilian Distillers was founded in 2012 in a former textile factory in the small village of Rüdenau, near Miltenberg am Main in Lower Franconia, Germany. Established by founder Andreas Thümmler, the distillery holds a significant place in German whisky history as the first distillery in Germany dedicated solely to whisky production, and it remains the largest of its kind in the country to this day. The first distillation runs took place in 2016, marking the beginning of a new chapter for German single malt whisky. St. Kilian specialises in single malt whisky inspired by whisky cultures from around the world, combining pure barley malt with original ingredients. The distillery's whisky's are bottled at cask strength, typically ranging from 50% to 62% ABV, and are released in individual batches — each with its own distinct character. The use of Scottish peated malt at 54 ppm is a notable feature in parts of their range, demonstrating a willingness to embrace bold, smoky styles alongside more classic expressions. St. Kilian has built a reputation for creative collaborations and limited releases, including a well-known ongoing partnership with the legendary rock band Judas Priest. The distillery's motto — "simply surprising" — reflects its ambition to challenge expectations and push the boundaries of what German whisky can be.
