St. George Spirits is an independent American craft distillery founded in 1982 by German immigrant Jörg Rupf in Alameda, California. Widely regarded as America's original craft distillery, St. George was established at a time when the very concept of craft distilling did not yet exist in the United States. Rupf is often referred to as the father of American artisan distilling, having pioneered small-scale distilling long before it became a movement. Lance Winters came aboard in 1996 and has since been instrumental in expanding the distillery's portfolio and driving its continued growth. Today, St. George Spirits is known for a diverse portfolio of twelve spirits, reflecting the distillery's philosophy of creative freedom and dynamic distilling. While the distillery began with a focus on eau de vie in the European tradition, it has since expanded into whiskey, gin, vodka, and more. Among its most celebrated expressions is the Terroir Gin, considered a cult favorite, and the distillery has also released whiskeys inspired by collaborations with iconic American brands such as Sierra Nevada.
