Seagram's is one of the most storied names in North American spirits, with roots stretching back to 1928 when Samuel Bronfman acquired the Seagram's brand and began building what would become a global beverages empire. Originally founded as a Canadian company, The Seagram Company Ltd. grew into the largest owner of alcoholic beverage brands in the world by the 1990s, with a portfolio spanning whisky, cognac, vodka, and beyond. The brand is best known for its blended Canadian and American whiskies. Right after Prohibition, Seagram's introduced two iconic blended whiskies β 5 Crown and 7 Crown β with Seagram's Seven Crown going on to become a staple of American bars, celebrated for its smooth, subtly sweet taste with a creamy vanilla finish. The flagship Seagram's VO, a classic Canadian blended whisky, remains in production today at Diageo's distillery in Valleyfield, Quebec. At its peak, Seagram's also owned Crown Royal and Canadian Club, cementing its dominance in the Canadian whisky category. After a series of corporate acquisitions and strategic pivots β including a move into entertainment through MCA/Universal Studios in the 1990s β the Seagram's spirits portfolio was eventually absorbed by industry giant Diageo. The Seagram's name lives on as a symbol of accessible, approachable blended whisky craftsmanship with deep North American heritage.
