Schraml, officially known as Steinwälder Hausbrennerei Schraml, is a family-owned distillery located in Erbendorf, Bavaria, Germany. Founded in 1818, it is considered the oldest whisky distillery in Germany. The operation is currently run by Gregor and Martin Schraml, representing the sixth generation of the family. The distillery is nestled within the Old Provost's Heritage Village, a former convent and rectory, and draws its character from the rugged landscape of the Steinwald nature reserve in the heart of Bavaria. Schraml is best known for its Stonewood whisky range, produced using traditional distilling techniques that have been refined over two centuries. The distillery's approach is deeply rooted in regional identity, reflecting the natural surroundings of the Steinwald area. Beyond whisky, Schraml also collaborates with other producers — most notably distilling the Edelster Aventinus for the renowned Bavarian brewery Schneider & Söhne, transforming their famous Aventinus weizenbock into a distinctive spirit. With its remarkable heritage and multi-generational craftsmanship, Schraml holds a unique position in the German spirits landscape. Its combination of historical significance and dedication to quality has earned the distillery recognition as a genuine treasure of Bavarian distilling tradition.
