Scarabus is an Islay single malt Scotch whisky brand created by Hunter Laing & Company, one of Scotland's most respected independent bottlers and blenders. The brand was launched in 2018 alongside the opening of Hunter Laing's first own distillery, Ardnahoe, on Islay. The name Scarabus is drawn from Islay's rich history and geography — a name that appears on maps and road signs across the island, connecting the whisky to the very soul of this legendary Scottish island. As a sourced Islay single malt, Scarabus is crafted to embody the bold, peated character that Islay is world-renowned for. The range spans multiple expressions, including a 10 Year Old and an impressive 30 Year Old, offering something for both newcomers and seasoned enthusiasts. The 30 Year Old is particularly celebrated for its full-bodied complexity — combining maritime salt, smoked ham, toffee, vanilla and citrus fruits into a deeply layered dram. The Scarabus Collection, as it is known within the Hunter Laing portfolio, represents the distiller's passion for sourcing exceptional Islay whisky. A special edition was released to celebrate the 2019 Fèis Ìle, the annual Islay Festival of Music and Malt, further cementing Scarabus's place within Islay's vibrant whisky culture.
