Scapa Distillery was founded in 1885 on the remote Orkney Islands, off the northern coast of Scotland. One of only two distilleries on this windswept archipelago, Scapa has a long and storied history, passing through the hands of Allied Distillers and Hiram Walker before eventually joining the Pernod Ricard portfolio under the Chivas Brothers umbrella. After a period of dormancy, the distillery was revived in 2004–2005, bringing its rugged Orcadian character back to life. Scapa is renowned for producing an unpeated single malt that reflects the wild, maritime landscape of Orkney. One of the distillery's most distinctive features is its use of a Lomond still — a rare piece of equipment that makes Scapa the only distillery in Scotland to employ this method for whisky production. The result is a spirit with a smooth, approachable character, balancing soft liquorice notes with a subtle coastal influence. The whisky is crafted using traditional, largely manual methods at what remains one of the last artisanal distilleries in Scotland. Today, Scapa has grown in visibility and prestige, opening its first-ever visitor centre to welcome whisky enthusiasts to its dramatic Orkney setting. As part of the Chivas Brothers portfolio, Scapa continues to represent the authentic, hand-crafted spirit of island distilling.
