Roseisle
Speyside, Scotland · Founded in 2009
Roseisle Distillery, located near Elgin in Speyside, is one of Scotland's most modern and ambitious whisky-making facilities. Announced in 2007 and opened in 2009, it was the first malt distillery of scale to be built in Scotland in 30 years. Owned by Diageo and constructed at a cost of £40 million, Roseisle represents a bold investment in the future of Scotch whisky production. The distillery is equipped with 14 stills, state-of-the-art technical equipment, and its own on-site maltings, making it one of the most energy- and cost-efficient distilleries in the country. With an annual alcohol output of 12.5 million litres, Roseisle is a production powerhouse within the Diageo portfolio. What makes it particularly remarkable is its versatility — the distillery is capable of producing a wide range of spirit styles, from floral and fruity to richer expressions, depending on the batch. For years, its whisky was used primarily for blending purposes, but in 2023 Diageo released the very first official single malt bottling from Roseisle as part of its prestigious Special Releases programme — a 12-year-old expression that marked the 28th distillery to feature in that collection, under the 'Spirited Xchange' theme. The Roseisle 12 Year Old Special Release 2023 was met with considerable excitement among whisky enthusiasts, shining a spotlight on a distillery that had long operated behind the scenes. It signals a new chapter for Roseisle as it steps into the single malt arena with well-deserved recognition.
