Robert Fleischmann

Robert Fleischmann is a pioneering figure in German whisky history, widely recognized as the founder of Blaue Maus, the first single malt whisky distillery in Germany. Fleischmann began his distilling journey in 1980 with a brandy wine distillery on the premises of the original family company. It was not until 1983 that he turned his attention to whisky, experimenting with distilling a beer mash — a step that would mark the beginning of German single malt production. His first whisky was released in 1994, following years of patient maturation. The Blaue Maus distillery, open by appointment only, reflects a deeply artisanal and personal approach to whisky making. Fleischmann's portfolio includes expressions such as the Krottentaler vintage and the Uberach Single Cask, which are known for their spicy, peppery character and non-chill-filtered production. These whisky's showcase the craftsmanship and individuality that define the brand. Robert Fleischmann is celebrated in the international whisky community as a true pioneer, having been featured in Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion as well as the World Atlas of Whiskey. His work laid the foundation for the broader German single malt movement, inspiring a new generation of craft distillers across the country.
