Puni is Italy's first malt whisky distillery, founded in January 2010 by the Ebensperger family in Glurns (Glorenza), a small medieval town in the Vinschgau (Venosta) valley in South Tyrol. Nestled in the Italian Alps near the Ortler mountain range, the distillery operates in a striking cube-shaped building that has become an iconic landmark in the region. Puni's location at high altitude in the Alps gives its whisky a distinctive character shaped by the surrounding mountain environment. Puni has followed Scotch whisky production methods while embracing its unique Italian Alpine terroir. The distillery has built a portfolio of single malt whisky's that showcase a variety of cask finishes and maturation styles, including expressions such as Puni Arte, which has been released in limited edition batches. The combination of locally sourced ingredients, alpine air, and innovative cask management gives Puni whisky's a character that stands apart from more traditional whisky-producing nations. Puni has played a pioneering role in establishing Italy as a credible whisky-producing country and is distributed internationally through prestigious importers such as La Maison du Whisky. The distillery has attracted considerable attention from the global whisky community, helping to put Italian malt whisky on the map as an exciting and emerging category.
