Penderyn is the pioneering Welsh whisky distillery, founded in 1998 when the Welsh Whisky Company was established. On 1 March 2000, the first spirit ran at Penderyn, making it the first operational whisky distillery in Wales in over a century. Located in the village of Penderyn in the Brecon Beacons in south Wales, the distillery has single-handedly rekindled Wales' whisky-making tradition and positioned itself as a true pioneer in the World Whisky category. From its origins as a single stillhouse producing small batches of malt whisky, Penderyn has grown into an internationally recognised brand with multiple distilleries, including its headquarters in Penderyn, as well as locations in Llandudno and Swansea. The distillery is known for its distinctive portfolio, which includes expressions from the celebrated Icons of Wales series — most recently expanded with Penderyn Patagonia. Penderyn's whisky's reflect a unique Welsh character, setting them apart from Scottish or Irish counterparts. Penderyn has established itself as the standard-bearer for Welsh whisky on the world stage. In 2025, the brand was recognised as the World's Fastest-Growing World Whisky, a testament to its growing international reputation and its role as an ambassador for Welsh distilling heritage.
