Palliser Distillery is a Canadian whisky producer located in Lethbridge, Alberta, nestled in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains just a few hours from the US border. The distillery was built in 1972β1973 by IDV (International Distillers & Vintners, later part of Diageo) to meet growing demand for Canadian whisky during a period of strong category expansion. In 1999, both Black Velvet and Palliser were sold, and the distillery changed hands several times over the years before being acquired by Heaven Hill Brands β the largest independent spirits supplier in the United States β in a landmark $266 million deal. Palliser Distillery is primarily known as the production home of Black Velvet Canadian Whisky, one of the most recognized Canadian whisky brands in North America. The facility also produces other Canadian whisky brands, including Danfield's Canadian Whisky. The distillery's output is characteristic of the smooth, approachable Canadian blended whisky style, crafted to appeal to a broad range of consumers. Heaven Hill's acquisition underscored the strategic importance of the Lethbridge facility as a significant asset in the Canadian whisky landscape. With Heaven Hill at the helm, the new owners have expressed confidence in a strong future for the Palliser Distillery and its portfolio, cementing Lethbridge's place as a key location in Canadian whisky production.
