/old PUL-ten-ee/
Highland, Scotland · Founded in 1826
Old Pulteney is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky produced at Pulteney Distillery, established in 1826 by James Henderson in the Pulteneytown area of Wick. Located on the rugged north coast of Scotland, it holds the distinction of being the most northerly distillery on the Scottish mainland. The distillery takes its name from the newly developed Pulteneytown district of Wick, a town historically known for its thriving herring fishing industry. Old Pulteney is the flagship single malt brand in the Inver House portfolio, celebrated for its distinctive maritime character — a reflection of its coastal location. The style is known for being briny, full-bodied, and complex, with influences from the sea air that surrounds the distillery. The range spans a variety of expressions, from accessible core releases to rare and aged bottlings, including a 40 Year Old and the remarkable 'Bow Wave', a 45 Year Old — the oldest expression ever produced at Pulteney Distillery. Once primarily known through independent bottlers, Old Pulteney has grown into a highly regarded brand within the Scotch whisky world. Its combination of remote heritage, maritime terroir, and long-aged expressions has earned it a devoted following among single malt enthusiasts worldwide.
