Octomore is a legendary expression produced at Bruichladdich Distillery on the Isle of Islay, Scotland. The name pays homage to a historic farm distillery that operated on the island from 1816 to 1852. When Bruichladdich revived the Octomore name, it did so with a bold ambition: to create the world's most heavily peated whisky. The first release came in 2008 and immediately shocked the whisky world with a phenol content of 80.5 PPM — and that was only the beginning. Octomore is defined by its relentless pursuit of peat, flavour, and experimentation. Typically aged for just five to six years, these super-heavily peated single malts consistently push boundaries, with later releases reaching well beyond 100 PPM — including expressions like the 13.4, malted to a staggering 137.3 PPM. The range is released in numbered series, each exploring different aspects of barley provenance, terroir, peat levels, and cask management. Despite the extreme peating levels, the whiskies are celebrated for their complexity and balance. Octomore has earned a devoted global following and is widely regarded as the benchmark for heavily peated Scotch whisky. It represents Bruichladdich's philosophy of endless flavour exploration, challenging conventional wisdom about age, peat, and what Islay whisky can be.
