Founded in 2006 by James Nelstrop, a Norfolk farmer with deep agricultural roots, the distillery was established at St. George's Distillery in Norfolk — widely regarded as the first dedicated whisky distillery in England in over a century. Surrounded by fields of barley, the Nelstrop family set out not for accolades, but to build a lasting legacy and prove that England could produce world-class whisky. The Norfolk range reflects the distillery's commitment to quality and its strong connection to the local landscape. Drawing on locally grown barley and traditional craft methods, the whisky's produced here span a variety of styles, from the core range to small batch, single cask, and age statement expressions. The portfolio also includes the distinctive Norfolk Popcorn expression, showcasing the distillery's willingness to experiment with unconventional production techniques. Over the years, The English Distillery has earned significant recognition on the international stage. At the IWSC Awards, Chapter 18 scored an impressive 96 points — the highest in the competition — and was awarded gold alongside the Norfolk Popcorn expression.
