Nikka Taketsuru
Japan · Founded in 1934
Nikka Taketsuru is a celebrated pure malt whisky line from The Nikka Whisky Distilling Co., named in honour of the company's visionary founder, Masataka Taketsuru. Taketsuru was a pioneer who travelled to Scotland in the early twentieth century to learn the art of whisky-making, before returning to Japan to establish what would become one of the country's most iconic whisky producers. Nikka was founded in 1934, and the Taketsuru range stands as a tribute to the man whose passion and craftsmanship laid the foundation for Japanese whisky as we know it today. The Nikka Taketsuru range is a blended pure malt, combining malt whiskies from Nikka's two renowned distilleries: Yoichi, known for its robust and peaty character, and Miyagikyo, celebrated for its elegant and fruity style. This combination of contrasting distillery profiles creates a beautifully balanced whisky that is widely recognised for its sweet and complex character. The range includes expressions such as the non-age-statement Pure Malt and the prestigious 21 Year Old expression. Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt has received considerable acclaim from the international whisky community, including recognition from leading whisky expert Jim Murray. The range is a benchmark for Japanese pure malt whisky and remains a favourite among enthusiasts seeking depth, harmony, and a true taste of Japanese whisky heritage.
