New Riff Distilling was founded in 2014 by Ken Lewis, a long-time beverage alcohol retailer, in Bellevue, Kentucky. Though its first releases only hit shelves in late 2018, the distillery quickly established itself as one of the most exciting new voices in American whiskey. Built on a philosophy of creating "new riffs on old traditions," New Riff combines time-honored sour mash methods and bottled-in-bond standards with a genuinely forward-thinking approach to distilling. New Riff's portfolio is defined by high-rye, full-bodied expressions that emphasize savory and spicy character. Their flagship Single Barrel Bourbon is bottled at barrel proof without chill filtration, reflecting the distillery's commitment to transparency and quality. Beyond bourbon, New Riff has shown a willingness to explore styles well outside Kentucky's traditional repertoire, including a 6-year-old Malted Rye Whiskey and an American Single Malt, demonstrating genuine range and ambition. Under the guidance of Master Distiller Jay Erisman, New Riff has steadily moved toward older and bolder releases, with 8-year expressions earning notable attention. Having celebrated a decade of production, the distillery has expanded its capacity significantly from its original four fermenters, cementing its reputation as a leading name in the new breed of Kentucky distilling.
