/MIL-ton-duff/
Speyside, Scotland · Founded in 1824
Miltonduff is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery founded in 1824, located six miles southwest of Elgin in Moray. Its history, however, stretches back far further — the site can be traced to the 13th century, when Pluscarden Abbey was established nearby. Like many Speyside distilleries, Miltonduff was officially licensed in 1824 following changes in Scottish tax laws, making it one of the earliest licensed distilleries in the region. In 1936, the distillery was acquired by Hiram Walker & Sons Ltd, and later became part of Allied Domecq in 1992. Today it sits within the Pernod Ricard portfolio. Miltonduff produces a classic Speyside-style single malt, known for its approachable and well-rounded character. The distillery has served as a key component malt in Ballantine's blended Scotch whisky, which has made it one of the more important — if relatively low-profile — workhorses of the Speyside region. While official bottlings have been limited over the years, Miltonduff expressions are regularly released by independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail, offering a range of styles including sherry-finished and long-aged releases that showcase the distillery's quality and versatility.
