Mannochmore

/MAN-noch-more/

Mannochmore Distillery was established in 1971 by John Haig & Co., built on the same property as the older Glenlossie distillery near Elgin in Speyside. Relatively young compared to many of its historic neighbours, the distillery was originally constructed to supply malt whisky for the Haig blends. Ownership eventually passed to Diageo, the global spirits giant, which continues to operate Mannochmore as a sister distillery to Glenlossie. Production faced a hiatus between 1985 and 1989 but resumed thereafter, and the distillery has since grown into a high-capacity operation. The majority of Mannochmore's output is destined for blended whiskies, particularly the Haig series, though the distillery has also begun releasing single malts that have earned recognition among enthusiasts. Its spirit is characterised by an elegant, subtle and complex style — a hallmark of the Speyside region. Mannochmore is perhaps best known beyond blending circles for its famous black whisky, Loch Dhu, a curiosity that once drew considerable attention from collectors and curious drinkers alike. Independent bottlers have also embraced Mannochmore over the years, offering a range of expressions that showcase the distillery's refined and distinctive character.
