Lossit
Islay, Scotland Β· Founded in 1826
Lossit is a lost Islay distillery that once operated in Ballygrant on the island of Islay, Scotland. The distillery closed in 1867, reportedly due to economic pressures, bringing an end to its chapter in Islay's rich whisky-making history. Today, Lossit lives on through The Lost Distillery Company, a unique venture dedicated to recreating the character of long-silent Scottish distilleries based on historical research and archival records. The Lost Distillery Company offers Lossit as part of its wider portfolio of reimagined lost distilleries, available in three distinct ranges: Classic, Archivist, and Vintage. Lossit is crafted as a blended malt whisky intended to reflect the traditional Islay character associated with the original distillery. True to its island origins, Lossit expressions are noted for their lighter colour alongside an austere nose with distinct iodine notes, capturing the coastal, peated spirit Islay is celebrated for. Lossit has been released in limited edition expressions, including a notable 27 Year Old bottling unveiled by The Lost Distillery Company alongside the Towiemore 25 Year Old. The brand has also been featured in exclusive mini six-pack selections, allowing enthusiasts to explore the character of Lossit alongside other lost distilleries in the portfolio. It remains a fascinating tribute to Islay's forgotten whisky heritage.
