Long Pond is one of Jamaica's oldest and most storied rum distilleries, with roots tracing back to 1753 — making it one of the oldest continuously operating distilleries in the Caribbean. Located in the Trelawny parish of Jamaica, Long Pond's early documented history begins around 1881, when it was owned by J.B. Sherriff & Company Limited, a Scottish blending firm. In 1953, the Canadian spirits giant Seagram acquired Long Pond to supply rum for blends such as Captain Morgan. Following the nationalization of the Jamaican spirits industry, Long Pond became part of National Rums of Jamaica in 1980. Since 2006, the distillery has been owned by a consortium, with Alexandre Gabriel and Maison Ferrand playing a key role in its revival. Long Pond is celebrated for producing traditional Jamaican pot still rum of exceptional character, known for its bold, funky, and ester-rich profile. Historically, much of its output was sold as bulk rum for international blends, meaning bottled expressions under its own name were rare for many years. That changed in 2017 when La Maison & Velier introduced Long Pond's spirit to export markets, finally giving enthusiasts direct access to its extraordinary liquid. The distillery's aged expressions have since gained a devoted following among collectors and connoisseurs worldwide.
