Lochlea Distillery is a farm distillery located in Ayrshire, in the Lowlands of Scotland. The site holds a special place in Scottish history as it was once farmed by national poet Robert Burns, who worked the land from 1777 to 1784. The distillery was founded in 2018 and has since been quietly distilling and maturing single malt Scotch whisky using barley grown and harvested on the farm itself, keeping a deep connection to its agricultural roots. Lochlea's whisky is defined by its farm-to-bottle philosophy, with the surrounding farmland playing a central role in production. The core range has evolved over time, and in 2025 the distillery introduced three new bottlings to expand its lineup. Among its notable releases is the Ploughing Edition First Crop, a smoky expression launched on Burns Night 2023, matured in ex-Islay whisky casks. In 2024, Jill Boyd was appointed as master blender, further strengthening the distillery's creative direction. Lochlea has steadily expanded its international presence, appointing Impex Beverages as its exclusive US importer and SipWell Brands as its global travel retail distributor. The distillery has also participated in collaborative projects such as Project 1927, bringing together a select group of innovative Scottish distilleries.
