Ladyburn is one of the rarest and most elusive single malt Scotch whiskies in existence. The distillery was founded in 1966 by William Grant & Sons, built within the grounds of their Girvan grain whisky distillery in Ayrshire, Scotland. Established during the height of the 1960s whisky boom, Ladyburn operated for less than a decade before closing its doors in 1975 — a sacrifice that allowed the company to focus resources on its flagship Balvenie distillery. No physical trace of the distillery remains today, making its whisky an extraordinary relic of a fleeting moment in Scotch whisky history. Because Ladyburn produced spirit for only nine years, the total supply of whisky available is strictly finite and diminishing with every release. What does exist showcases remarkable complexity and depth, shaped by extended maturation periods. The Ladyburn 1966 Edition Two, for example, was distilled during a period of sweeping social transformation and left to mature for 55 years, resulting in an expression of extraordinary character and rarity. Ladyburn's reputation among collectors and connoisseurs continues to grow. In November 2023, a single bottle set a new auction record, underscoring the whisky's extraordinary desirability. More recently, Ladyburn has collaborated with renowned Korean artist Ha Chong-Hyun, further cementing its status at the intersection of art and whisky. Often described as the shortest-lived distillery in Scotch whisky history, Ladyburn occupies a singular and coveted place in the world of rare spirits.
