Kininvie is a Speyside single malt distillery founded on July 4, 1990, by William Grant & Sons, nestled within the grounds of the renowned Balvenie distillery in Dufftown. It was built primarily to relieve production pressure on its sister distilleries, Balvenie and Glenfiddich, supplying spirit for the William Grant & Sons blending portfolio to meet growing global demand for blended Scotch whisky. Sharing Balvenie's mash house and other facilities, Kininvie has operated quietly behind the scenes for much of its existence. Kininvie is celebrated for producing a delicate and floral single malt with hidden depths — a style that reflects the classic gentle character of Speyside. For decades its spirit was reserved almost exclusively for blending purposes, making official single malt releases exceptionally rare and highly sought after. In 2013, the distillery began releasing limited single malt expressions under its own name, giving whisky enthusiasts a rare opportunity to experience Kininvie as a standalone dram. Its limited releases, including expressions such as KVSM001, have been well received among collectors and connoisseurs alike.
