Kilchoman Sanaig
Islay, Scotland Β· Founded in 2005
Kilchoman is one of Scotland's most celebrated farm distilleries, established in 2005 on the Isle of Islay. As the first new distillery to open on Islay in over 124 years, Kilchoman quickly made a name for itself by embracing a truly traditional, small-scale approach to whisky production. Located on the western shores of Islay, the distillery grows its own barley, malts, distils, matures, and bottles on-site β making it one of the few genuinely farm-to-bottle operations in Scotland. Kilchoman Sanaig is one of the distillery's core expressions, named after the rocky coastal inlet near the distillery. Bottled at 46% ABV, it is matured primarily in Oloroso sherry casks, which give it a richer, darker character compared to the distillery's flagship Machir Bay. Alongside peat smoke β a hallmark of Kilchoman's style β Sanaig delivers layers of dried fruit, dark chocolate, and warming spices. A cask strength edition, the Sanaig Cask Strength 2024, has also been released, offering an even more intense expression of the same profile. Kilchoman Sanaig has earned significant recognition in the whisky world, including a Gold Medal and the title of Best Peated Whisky at the 2018 Whisky World Cup. This award reflects the quality and complexity that this young Islay distillery consistently delivers across its range.
