Kilbeggan holds a remarkable place in Irish whiskey history as the oldest licensed distillery in Ireland. The distillery's origins trace back to 1757, when Matthew MacManus obtained the license to produce whiskey in the town of Kilbeggan. Over the centuries, the distillery experienced periods of closure and revival, reflecting the turbulent history of Irish whiskey as a whole. A pivotal moment came in 1987 when the Teeling family, already known for their role in establishing Cooley Distillery, brought Kilbeggan into their portfolio. This marked the beginning of a new era for the brand. Prior to being acquired by Beam Suntory, Kilbeggan and Cooley together formed the only independently owned distillery operation in Ireland. Today, as part of Beam Suntory, a world leader in premium spirits, Kilbeggan continues to push Irish whiskey conventions while remaining true to classic distilling traditions. The portfolio includes expressions such as a Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey, staying rooted in time-honoured methods while appealing to a modern audience.
