Invergordon is a Scotch grain whisky distillery located on the outskirts of the town of Invergordon, in the northern Highlands of Scotland. The distillery has been producing spirits since around the time of World War II, and has long been a significant contributor to some of the most recognisable Scotch whisky blends in the world. In 1993, Invergordon Distillers was acquired by Whyte & Mackay following a hostile takeover battle, bringing the grain distillery firmly under the umbrella of one of Scotland's major whisky groups. As a grain distillery, Invergordon produces a lighter, smoother style of whisky that serves as a key component in blended Scotch whiskies. Over the years, independent bottlers have also released single grain expressions from Invergordon, often drawn from long-aged refill casks. A notable example includes expressions distilled as far back as 1987 and bottled decades later, showcasing the remarkable depth and character that Invergordon grain whisky can develop with extended maturation. Today, the distillery remains part of the Whyte & Mackay portfolio alongside single malt distilleries such as Tamnavulin.
