Ichiro's
Japan Β· Founded in 2004
Ichiro's Malt is one of Japan's most celebrated and sought-after whisky brands, created by Ichiro Akuto, a man whose family has been brewing sake since the 1600s. The brand is produced under Venture Whisky, the company Akuto founded after the closure of the historic Hanyu distillery, which had been operated by his family. Determined to preserve the remaining casks from Hanyu, Akuto bottled them as the now legendary Playing Cards Series β a collection of 58 different single malts, each label featuring a playing card design. A complete set sold at auction for Β£1.1 million, cementing the brand's extraordinary status among collectors worldwide. To secure the future of his whisky-making vision, Ichiro Akuto established the Chichibu Distillery, which has since become the spiritual home of the Ichiro's Malt range. The portfolio spans several expressions, including the iconic Double Distilleries bottling β a pure malt that blends casks from both the historic Hanyu distillery and Chichibu β as well as Malt & Grain releases and limited annual editions such as the US Edition. The style is characterised by meticulous craftsmanship, complexity, and a distinctly Japanese attention to balance and refinement. Ichiro Akuto is widely regarded as one of the most distinguished figures in Japanese whisky, and Ichiro's Malt has earned international acclaim not only for its rare collectible releases but also for the consistent quality across its broader range. The brand stands as a testament to both heritage and innovation in Japanese whisky.
