Hakushu is a single malt Japanese whisky produced at Suntory's Hakushu Distillery, founded in 1973 in the heart of Japan's Southern Alps. Established exactly half a century after the birth of the first Japanese malt whisky distillery, Hakushu represents Suntory's commitment to exploring diverse whisky-making environments. Situated at an elevation of approximately 700 meters above sea level, the distillery has earned the evocative nickname 'the forest distillery,' reflecting its lush, pristine surroundings. The Hakushu Single Malt was officially launched in 1994 and quickly gained recognition for its distinctive character: silky smooth with delicate floral notes. The portfolio includes age-stated expressions such as the 12 Year Old, which is exclusive to the American market, and the prestigious 18 Year Old, available in both standard and limited peated versions. The 18 Year Old Peated Malt is crafted from carefully selected malt whiskies aged for a minimum of 18 years in a variety of cask types, resulting in a whisky of exceptional complexity and depth. Hakushu has become one of the most celebrated expressions from the House of Suntory, admired worldwide for its fresh, herbaceous, and subtly smoky style that sets it apart from other Japanese single malts. Its unique alpine provenance continues to define and distinguish the brand.
