Speyside, Scotland · Founded in 1878
The Glenrothes Distillery is located in Rothes, in the heart of Speyside, Scotland. It was founded in 1878 by James Stuart & Co., a local grain merchant with a deep passion for whisky. The distillery has changed hands several times over the decades: Berry Bros. & Rudd, the renowned London wine and spirits merchant, held ownership of the brand for many years before selling it back to Edrington in 2017, who sought to accelerate the single malt's growth in international markets. Edrington is also known for producing iconic blends such as The Famous Grouse and Cutty Sark, both of which have long featured Glenrothes spirit at their core. The Glenrothes is celebrated for its rich, fruity, and complex Speyside character, with an emphasis on elegance and depth. The distillery is particularly well known for its vintage-dated releases, a distinctive approach that highlights the natural variation between casks and harvest years. The portfolio includes expressions ranging from age-stated bottlings to special releases such as the Whisky Maker's Cut and the acclaimed 25 Year Old, which earned the prestigious Chairman's Trophy shortly after Edrington reacquired the brand. These whisky's showcase the distillery's commitment to quality and its enduring reputation as one of Speyside's most distinguished producers.
