Glenmore
USA Β· Founded in 1890
Glenmore Distillery Company is a historic American whiskey producer rooted in Owensboro, Kentucky. The brand traces its origins to the late 19th century, with Glenmore appearing in the company's portfolio by 1892. Operating through one of the most turbulent periods in American spirits history, Glenmore survived Prohibition (1920β1933) by functioning as a concentration warehouse for medicinal whiskey, allowing it to resume full production once the ban was lifted. Glenmore built its reputation on bourbon and a broad portfolio of American whiskey brands. Over the decades, the company acquired notable names such as Yellowstone bourbon, purchased from the Dant family in 1944, further cementing its place in American whiskey history. The distillery's output ranged across multiple labels, reflecting the diverse and competitive landscape of mid-20th century American spirits. Glenmore's later years were marked by significant industry consolidation. The company's distilleries were eventually sold to Barton, and in 1991, Glenmore merged with United Distillers to form what was at the time the second largest liquor company in the United States. Though the brand has since faded from prominence, Glenmore remains an important chapter in the story of American bourbon and whiskey production.
