Highland, Scotland · Founded in 1843
Glenmorangie is one of Scotland's most iconic single malt distilleries, founded in 1843 by William Matheson on the site of a former barley mill and brewery at Morangie Farm, in the Royal Burgh of Tain in the far north of the Scottish Highlands. In 1918, Edinburgh wine and spirits merchant Macdonald & Muir acquired a significant stake in the company, beginning a long period of family stewardship that helped shape the distillery's identity for decades to come. Glenmorangie is renowned for its exceptionally tall copper pot stills — the tallest in Scotland — which produce a particularly light and delicate spirit. The distillery has long been celebrated for its pioneering approach to wood finishing, experimenting with a wide variety of cask types including Sherry, Port, Madeira, and Burgundy, resulting in a diverse and expressive portfolio of single malts. This commitment to cask innovation has been a defining hallmark of the brand. Today, Glenmorangie is consistently ranked among the world's best-selling single malt Scotch whiskies, surpassing 500,000 nine-litre cases in 2015 and holding the position of Scotland's favourite single malt. Owned by luxury conglomerate LVMH, the brand has grown from a niche Highland producer into a truly global name.
