Glenlochy

Glenlochy is a silent Scottish distillery located in Fort William in the Scottish Highlands, founded in 1898 by the Glenlochy-Fort William Distillery Co. Built on the banks of the River Nevis shortly after the completion of the West Highland Railway, the distillery was established during the great whisky boom of the late Victorian era — though it arrived just in time for one of the industry's worst recessions. The distillery is closely associated with founder David McAndie, and its history was marked by an eventful series of closures and re-openings before it permanently closed its doors. Glenlochy produced Highland single malt Scotch whisky and was one of seven distilleries that came under the ownership of DCL (Distillers Company Limited) during its troubled history, alongside other now-silent names such as Bruichladdich, Benromach, Fettercairn, and Glenury. The distillery ultimately closed for good in 1983, making its releases increasingly rare and collectible. Today, Glenlochy is considered a hidden gem among whisky collectors and enthusiasts. Its bottlings — often released by independent bottlers such as Gordon & MacPhail — are highly sought after precisely because of their scarcity. Expressions distilled in the 1970s and early 1980s represent some of the last whisky ever produced at the site, offering a fascinating glimpse into a lost chapter of Highland distilling history.
